Prince Andrew Made Money From Royal Lodge Cottages
A new report by the National Audit Office (NAO) has revealed that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was allowed to rent out cottages connected to Royal Lodge while living there. During his more than 20 years at the Windsor estate property, he sublet three cottages.
The investigation confirmed that Andrew earned money from these rentals. However, the report could not determine exactly how much income he received from letting out the homes.
Andrew lived at the 30-room Royal Lodge for over two decades. During that time, he paid only a peppercorn rent, which is a very small symbolic fee. In return, he agreed to pay for major renovation work at the property. It is understood that no one ever asked him to hand over the actual peppercorn rent.
Earlier this year, Andrew moved out of Royal Lodge and relocated to the Sandringham estate. He now lives in a property owned by his brother, King Charles. Royal Lodge and the cottages he rented out are all part of the Crown Estate.
What The Report Says About Prince Andrew’s Compensation
The NAO report also confirmed that Andrew is entitled to compensation because he agreed to leave Royal Lodge before his tenancy ended. The report estimates that he could receive around £301,000.
However, the final amount may be much lower or even nothing at all. Any compensation will be reduced by the cost of repairs needed at the property after his departure. According to the report, these repair costs are expected to cancel out most or all of the money owed to him.
Andrew left Royal Lodge in early 2026 after agreeing to move out in October 2025. His departure came after King Charles stripped him of his royal titles. Just a few months later, police arrested Andrew as part of an investigation into alleged misconduct in public office.
Officers searched both his new home at Sandringham and his former residence. After questioning him for 11 hours, police released him without charge. However, the investigation remains ongoing. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal news and updates.
