Alan’s family confirmed the news of his death through a statement and remembered him not only for his professional achievements but also for the role he played within his family. Their statement read: “Alan was a professional radio, television, film and stage actor and director whose career spanned more than 70 years. Alan died peacefully in hospital following a short illness.”

The statement added, “Beyond his professional achievements, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues and the many people whose lives he touched through his work.”

Alan Rothwell Built A Career That Spanned More Than Seven Decades

Alan Rothwell was born on February 9, 1937, in Oldham, Lancashire, United Kingdom. He first gained attention through his role in the popular soap opera The Archers, where he played ‘Jimmy Grange’. He also appeared in the spy series Top Secret and guest-starred in Gideon’s Way, adding more variety to his growing television career.

However, many fans remember him best for his role as ‘David Barlow’ in Coronation Street. Alan appeared in the soap through sporadic appearances over eight years, starting in 1960 and continuing until his exit in 1968. As one of the original cast members, he became part of the show’s early history and remained connected to its legacy long after leaving the cobbles.
