Summer Spellman’s future on Coronation Street has become a big question after a shocking turn in Theo Silverton’s murder case. The police have now arrested her, and her desperate plan to leave Weatherfield has only made things worse. So, is this the start of Summer’s exit, or is there more drama still to come?
Summer Spellman Is Arrested For Murder
Coronation Street viewers saw Summer’s world fall apart during Thursday night’s episode on 21 May. DS Lisa Connor-Swain arrested her on suspicion of murdering Theo Silverton, and the moment left fans worried about what could happen next.
The police had already been watching Summer because of her difficult history with Theo. Theo had abused Todd, and he also played a part in Billy’s death. Because of that, Summer had a clear reason to hate him, which made her look suspicious.
Things became even worse when the police found Summer’s brooch in Theo and Todd’s old flat. That one detail placed her closer to the crime scene and made the investigation much more serious for her.
At the start of the episode, Summer was already scared and under pressure. While she was at Roy’s Rolls, she heard Christina talking about the chance of Summer being arrested for murder. Christina said she did not believe Summer could really kill Theo, but the conversation still frightened Summer.
Summer Tries To Leave Coronation Street
After hearing that conversation, Summer decided she had to leave Weatherfield before the police came for her. She planned to go to America, where she had studied before, and hoped she could get away before everything got worse.
However, Summer did not know that the police were already getting closer. George Shuttleworth had told DS Connor-Swain that he saw Summer near Theo and Todd’s old flat on the night Theo died. Even though Summer had managed to avoid suspicion during police questioning, George’s information pushed her to the top of the suspect list.
Summer packed her things and got ready to leave, but Todd caught her before she could escape. He begged her not to run. Summer then told him why she was so scared. She admitted that she had tried to hire Carl Webster to help her get rid of Theo, and she believed this would make the police see her as a murder suspect, even though she said she was innocent.
The situation became even more emotional when George and Christina walked in. Todd still agreed to help Summer and decided to drive her to the airport. But their escape plan ended suddenly when a police car blocked their way, and officers arrested Summer on suspicion of murder.
Harriet Bibby Does Not Seem To Be Leaving Yet
The arrest has made fans wonder if Harriet Bibby is leaving Coronation Street after six years on the ITV soap. However, there is no sign right now that the actress is leaving the show. In fact, future spoilers suggest that Summer will stay involved in the storyline for the next few weeks.
She may even find a way to clear her name after remembering a witness who could support her alibi for the night Theo was killed. There is also more drama coming for Todd and George. George is set to admit to Todd that he was the one who told the police about Summer’s suspicious behaviour.
That confession could lead to more tension while the police continue to search for Theo’s real killer. Summer may not be leaving Weatherfield, but she could still spend time behind bars before the truth comes out.
