The soap viewers know that the World Cup will kick Emmerdale and Coronation Street off the sidelines. Both shows will move away from their half-hour power hour format, which was introduced this year in the month of January.
The schedule was changed to reduce the weekly output from six to five episodes and to air them for thirty minutes each from 8 pm on weekdays, which attracted a larger audience. Meanwhile, ITV’s director of Media and Entertainment, Kevin Lygo, said that they believe that the right number of episodes can fit into the viewing schedule of soap watchers.
Furthermore, the soap fans want the shows to have pacey storytelling. Thus, thirty-minute instalments provide the opportunity to meet viewer expectations for resolution.
ITV Revamps Schedule With Return Of Hour-Long Episodes!
Meanwhile, on June 5, the episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will not be aired. The FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to take place between England and Spain. However, the episodes will be shown on Sunday, June 7.
The episodes will air between 8 and 9 pm. However, on Tuesday, June 9, Emmerdale and Coronation Street will be off air again. This is because of the Women’s European Qualifier between England and Ukraine.
Then on Wednesday, June 10, Emmerdale will air at 7 pm while the rival soap will air at 7:30 pm. But then on Thursday, June 11, no soaps will air due to the opening ceremony. Meanwhile, on Friday, June 12, the hour-long format returns.
