There are rumours that Pippa Middleton, Kate Middleton’s younger sister and one of the Princess of Wales’s closest friends, might get a royal title herself soon. Last month, on July 14, Pippa joined Kate and her niece, Princess Charlotte, at Wimbledon.
The Princess of Wales is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Amidst her tough time, all of her family members are supporting her. Meanwhile, Queen Camilla’s sister, Annabel Elliot, though not officially a ‘companion’ or ‘lady-in-waiting,’ did attend the Queen’s coronation in May 2023.
There is speculation about whether Pippa might take on a similar role when Kate becomes queen. Hello! says, “It would be unprecedented for Pippa to receive a title simply because her sister is queen consort.” However, she might find herself in a position like a lady-in-attendance or companion.
Royal historian Kate Williams suggested that Catherine might choose her sister Pippa for a significant role, given their close bond. The Duke of Cambridge mentioned on True Royalty TV’s The Royal Beat: Back in time that since Catherine is so close to her mother and sister, Pippa could likely be the one she appoints.
Kate To Appoint Her Own Team Soon
Williams believes that Princess Kate will eventually have her own team of assistants, just like Queen Camilla does, because the role of a monarch and consort is only getting more demanding. The increase in letters, emails, and correspondence means that when Kate becomes queen, she’ll need a team of ladies-in-waiting.
Back in 2022, Queen Camilla modernised the traditional concept of ladies-in-waiting by appointing six female companions who assist at events but don’t handle correspondence or administration. These companions have a more occasional and informal role.
According to BBC, “They don’t receive a salary, but their expenses will be covered.” Additionally, it’s uncertain if Pippa would accept a role as a companion to her older sister despite being offered. She has her own life with her husband, James Matthews, and her three children.
