Kate Middleton, the Royal Princess of Wales, has completed a huge challenge for a very personal reason. She climbed the highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales in less than 24 hours to raise money for the hospital that treated her cancer.
After finishing the challenge, Kate shared why it meant so much to her and what she hopes people will take away from it. Scroll down for more information.
A Challenge That Meant A Lot To Kate Middleton
Kate, 44, completed Britain’s Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend. She did it to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. The charity supports the cancer hospital in Chelsea, west London, where Kate received treatment after she was diagnosed with cancer.
In a video shared on Sunday, Kate explained why she wanted to take on the challenge. She said, “Lots of people have asked me why I’m doing this challenge. Partly it’s personal, I’m so grateful to be here, to be strong enough to walk these hills.”
She said the challenge was also her way of thanking the people who care for cancer patients every day. “But, more importantly, it’s to give something back and acknowledge all the incredible work going on up and down this country.”
Princess Kate Looks Back On Her Cancer Journey
Kate shared her cancer diagnosis in March 2024. At the time, she revealed that she was having chemotherapy. The announcement came two months after she had major abdominal surgery. Almost a year later, she announced that she was in remission.
Since then, Kate has slowly returned to her royal duties. She has also become more involved with The Royal Marsden. Last year, Kensington Palace announced that Kate and Prince William had become joint patrons of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.
Kate said meeting other cancer patients has inspired her. “I’ve met some incredible people, those people who are living with and beyond cancer. And I know personally how difficult that journey is, and I really wanted to use this opportunity as my way of contributing to all the wonderful work that’s going on.”
Kate has often spoken about the need for “holistic care.” She believes cancer patients need support for their physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellbeing. She also shared a fundraising link and asked the public to support The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal news and behind-the-scenes updates.
