Leanne Battersby finally seems ready for a fresh start in Coronation Street. After years of heartbreak and messy relationships, she meets a charming new man called Idris. At first, everything looks exciting for Leanne. But things soon take a dramatic turn when Idris starts showing interest in Tracy Barlow too.
Leanne Meets Charming Newcomer Idris
Leanne has had a very difficult love life over the years. She dated creepy cult leader Rowan and was also married to Nick Tilsley before he cheated on her with her sister Toyah Battersby. She also had a troubled marriage with Peter Barlow and later had a fling with Steve McDonald. Their relationship led to the tragic death of baby Oliver.
Now, Leanne finally seems ready to move on and enjoy something happier in her life. This new romance also comes while she is dealing with the aftermath of taking revenge on twisted paedophile Megan Walsh.
Executive Producer Kate Brooks recently shared details about Idris, who is connected to Alya Nazir’s family. She said: “We have Idris. He’s Alya’s cousin. He is very, very charming. The charm oozes out of every pore of this guy.”
Kate also explained: “‘He’s a savvy kind of business guy, he’s got a bit of a ruthless streak, he’s not ready to get his hands dirty slightly, but he can charm the birds from the trees.’” She then teased Idris and Leanne’s romance by saying: “‘He’s a new love interest for Leanne,’ Kate explained. ‘The attraction is instantaneous. It gives Leanne a new lease of life.’”
Leanne And Idris Quickly Grow Close
Idris first appears when he helps Brody at Speed Daal after some loud businessmen start causing trouble. He steps in, throws the men out, and Alya happily greets him with a hug. This is the moment when Leanne first notices him.
Later, Leanne catches Idris’ attention again when she stands up to a thug and scares him off. Idris feels impressed by her confidence and asks her to join him for a drink at the Rovers.
The two quickly connect and enjoy spending time together. Before long, Idris leans in and kisses Leanne. It suddenly looks like Leanne may finally have found someone special after all the pain she has been through.
But things become awkward very quickly when Alya finds out about the kiss. Instead of feeling happy for Leanne, Alya becomes worried and warns her to stay away from Idris.
Idris Starts Flirting With Tracy Too
It does not take long for the reason behind Alya’s warning to become clear. Soon after kissing Leanne, Idris heads down the street and starts heavily flirting with Tracy Barlow. That creates a huge problem because Leanne and Tracy already have a messy history together.
They famously clashed before after Tracy became furious over Leanne’s relationship with Steve McDonald. Both women are strong personalities who never back down from a fight. Tracy also has one of the darkest pasts on Coronation Street after she killed Charlie Stubbs years ago during a strip tease. That makes Idris’ behaviour even more dangerous as he continues flirting with both women.
