EastEnders actress Lorraine Stanley recently made a surprising comparison. The actress compared her exit from the BBC soap to a difficult break-up. The star was seen on a mental health podcast where she will discuss the transition after playing Karen Taylor for seven years.
Also, Stanley moved away from Walford but continues to share her journey with loyal fans. Meanwhile, will the Taylor family matriarch ever return to the Square? Keep scrolling to learn more.
Lorraine Stanley Reflects On Being Dumped
Lorraine has compared her exit from the BBC soap to a painful romantic split. The actress described the end of her seven-year stint as Karen as “being dumped”. We saw the characters exit years ago. Despite that, fans continue to vocalise their frustration over the decision. Viewers believe that axing her was a massive mistake. Hence, they are demanding her return to the Square.
However, now the actress has moved forward. She will soon be seen in a new project for the secretive underworld of Essex. Lorraine had become a fan favourite for her authentic portrayal of the devoted Taylor matriarch. However, when her time in Walford came to an end, she felt “really gutted.”
Speaking on a podcast, she explained that she felt the end approaching as her onscreen family dwindled. She added, “You sort of see it, ebbing away actually, because Danny was killed, and Chantelle was killed…so I had a sense of breaking away.” The actress had an emotional attachment to the role. Hence, when she departed she struggled to tune in.
Lorraine also compared the experience to “watching your boyfriend with a new girlfriend.” However, the mother of the Taylor clan did return briefly two years back for Keanu’s funeral. But for her the initial exit felt like a true breakup.
EastEnders Star’s Gritty Television Comeback
Viewers are hoping that one day someone will rectify that mistake and bring her back to the soap. However, Lorraine is currently filming a jaw-dropping transformation for a new series titled Cash In Hand. In this upcoming drama, the world of Essex “grafters” will be explored.

With this new project, Lorraine will bring her signature “toughness and humour” to this gritty role. We will also get to see a shift from the dishevelled hair and baggy outfits of Karen Taylor. Also, this series looks to pull back the curtain on the county’s underground economy.
