The second episode of Meghan Markle’s show featured a special guest and her dear friend, Mindy Kaling. FYI, the ladies have collaborated before for Markle’s Archetypes podcast. So, they met at Meghan’s Montecito mansion to plan a charming tea party for kids. However, their conversation caught everyone’s attention for all the wrong reasons!
While chatting, Kaling referred to her host as “Meghan Markle” a few times. That’s when the Duchess decided to set the record straight. “It’s so funny, too, that you keep saying Meghan Markle. You know I’m Sussex now,” she said with a smile. It almost feels like a subtle announcement that Markle has ditched her maiden name.
Now, she’s all about enjoying her royal name and fame. Unsurprisingly, social media users picked up on the very moment and cringed so hard. They found Markle’s gesture an unnecessary push to brand herself as “Sussex.” In addition, many netizens highlighted the irony of clinging to a title after giving up on the royal life. She wants her kids to know of their royal heritage. “It just means so much to go, ‘This is our family name, our little family name.“ Well, fans found the whole conversation very unnatural and scripted.
People Find Meghan’s Behaviour Condescending
People’s reaction? “She’s living inside her make-believe fantasy indulged by her childhood aspiration to be queen,“ One wrote. However, this isn’t the only thing leading to media outrage. There was another moment in the show that made people call out Markle– this time for being racist.
During their chat, Mindy compliments Meghan’s appearance, saying, “By the way, Meghan, I wanna ask about your look.“ But her pronunciation of “look“ sounds different, and she repeats, “Your look.“ The Suits actress remains puzzled and asks, “My lewk?“ before imitating Kaling’s pronunciation.
Subsequently, the internet didn’t spare Meghan and bashed her for mocking Mindy’s Indian accent. After all, Mindy was born in the U.S. and speaks English fluently. Critics described Markle’s response as “mean girl behaviour.“ One user wrote, “Watching Meghan literally humiliate Mindy over that small mispronunciation.”
