Meghan Markle found a friend in Tyler Perry. When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were at their lowest physically and mentally, stuck in Canada while their feud with the royal family grew worse, Hollywood star Tyler Perry came to their aid and extended a helping hand.
Even though the duo had never met each other before this, Perry didn’t think twice before helping the estranged royal couple. However, he did have a request for them in the later years, what was it? Read on to find out!
Meghan Markle Had To Abide By This Request From Perry
The 42-year-old Duchess revealed in an interview that she had never met the actor and filmmaker, Tyler Perry before she and her family stayed in his LA state. While speaking to the PEOPLE magazine, Meghan said that the ‘Madea’ director got in touch with her ahead of her royal magazine.
He wrote that he knew what she was letting herself in for and offered his help if she ever needed it. However, the mother of two didn’t take him up on the offer for years but reached out to him when she was stranded with her family in Canada.

While discussing this difficult time of her life on the Netflix show Harry & Meghan, she said, “That’s where Tyler came into the picture. I’d never met him before. He sent me a letter before the wedding just saying he was praying for me. And that if I ever need anything, he would be there. Months and months and months went by. And then, one day, when we were in Canada, I called him.”
Markle also shared how she kept on crying and weeping when she first spoke to Perry. She reflected on how it’s sometimes easier to just open with someone who knows nothing at all. The extraordinary human and director then offered the couple and their young son Archie one of his homes, a massive mansion in LA.
He asked Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to stay there and use it as a temporary safe place while they figured out what to do next. The pair stayed in that place for most of the COVID-19 pandemic and soon moved out into their Montecito home.
In her interview with The Cut, Meghan revealed that they received a massive grand piano as a housewarming gift, which now sits in the living room. Perry is also Princess Lilibet’s godfather. While recalling this special moment on the Netflix show, Tyler said that he remembers saying, “Whoa.” I had to take a minute to take that in. And I thought, ‘I’d be honoured. I’d be absolutely honoured.’” However, he had one request from all this: He didn’t want a big ceremony to go over this.
