In the latest episode, the Dingles reunited as the family rallied around Cain. They wanted an update about Monty after he had suffered smoke inhalation. His tests indicated that he might have cancer. Paddy told Cain and Moira that Monty had a metastatic tumour. However, Paddy informed them that Monty could be well after the right treatment.
Paddy assured that there would be good moments. Lydia suggested that he might have more time being loved. Cain moved out, saying that he would collect Monty from the clinic later on. At the clinic, Cain asked Paddy what to do with Monty. The vet replied that he would choose to give him longer. Paddy told him to give him more love. Cain told his dog that they have to make a big decision.

Cain also said that when the time comes for radiotherapy, he would go for it. He added tearfully that Monty has made him realise that he has options for the treatment, so he should have it.
