Corrie, which normally airs at 8pm on Wednesdays, has been one of the shows affected by this reshuffle. Earlier this week, the soap appeared at a different time than many viewers anticipated. It signalled that ITV was making room for other commitments.
While the soap continues to build momentum toward the festive period, these changes have left fans double-checking the TV guide. Anyone sitting down tonight expecting their usual Wednesday evening trip to Weatherfield will quickly realise something is missing. Instead of drama on the cobbles, ITV is offering a completely different atmosphere on screen.
The Reason Coronation Street Isn’t On Tonight
Coronation Street is not airing tonight because ITV has cleared its evening schedule for live sport. The broadcaster is showing coverage of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on December 17, which clashes directly with the soap’s usual 8pm start time. Defending champions Newcastle United are playing Fulham, with ITV’s live broadcast beginning at 7.30pm and running through until around 10.40pm. That extended coverage leaves no space for Corrie in the schedule this evening.
As a result, ITV moved Coronation Street earlier in the week instead. Fans who missed last night’s episode may now face a longer wait than expected before they can catch up. Coronation Street is set to return to ITV with an hour-long episode on Friday, December 19. The episode will air at 8pm and run until approximately 9pm.
