Former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondhalgh has given fans a small tease about her time on Celebrity Traitors, and it sounds like the show will be full of surprises. While attending the launch of her new Channel 4 drama Tip Toe, Julie refused to reveal whether she was a Traitor or a Faithful. However, she did admit that the experience was very different from what she expected.
Julie’s Coronation Street Role Remains One Of Soap’s Most Memorable Stories
Julie became a household name through her role as Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street. She first appeared on the cobbles in 1998 and remained a central part of the soap until her departure in 2014.
Her exit storyline remains one of the most emotional moments in Coronation Street history. After Hayley received a terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis, she chose to end her own life before her condition deteriorated further. Viewers watched the heartbreaking scenes as she died peacefully in the arms of her husband, Roy Cropper.

Hayley also broke new ground as Coronation Street’s first transgender character. Julie previously explained that producers had originally planned only a short appearance for Hayley, but audience reaction quickly changed everything.
She said: “We played it for real and not for laughs. The most amazing thing happened when the public got behind it. There was a quick re-write and it turned into a real love story. What happened was telly magic and there was real chemistry between Hayley and Roy and me and David (Neilson) always got on so well.”
Julie Shares A Surprising Hint About Celebrity Traitors
While promoting Tip Toe on the red carpet, Julie faced questions about her time on Celebrity Traitors. However, she made it clear that she could not reveal whether she competed as a Traitor or a Faithful.
When asked directly about her role in the game, Julie joked that the show’s confidentiality agreements prevented her from saying anything. She quipped: “I’m not gonna tell you! I’ve got NDAs up to my eyeballs! If I’d tell you that I’d have to kill you! I can’t tell you anything.

“I can’t tell you anything except that it’s an extraordinary experience, and not at all what anybody imagined it to be. It’s going to be a good one, I’ll tell you that!” Although she stopped short of giving away any details, her comments suggest that viewers should expect something very different from what they may be anticipating.
Fans already know that Traitors can deliver major twists, and last year’s finale proved exactly that. The game came down to a tense final decision that changed everything. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
