Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left royal life more than six years ago. But one final reminder of their time within the monarchy may soon disappear.
Reports suggest that Frogmore Cottage, the home Queen Elizabeth II gifted to the couple, could be restored. If the plans move ahead, it would remove one of their last physical connections.
Plans Could Erase Harry And Meghan’s Changes To Frogmore Cottage
Frogmore Cottage played an important role in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal journey. Queen Elizabeth II gave the property to the couple as a wedding gift. And, they hoped to make it their family home.
Before moving in, Harry and Meghan carried out major renovations on the historic property. The work reportedly cost around $3 million and was paid for through the Sovereign Grant. The renovations sparked controversy after the couple stepped down as senior royals. However, many critics forget that Harry and Meghan later repaid the money.

The couple wanted to keep Frogmore Cottage as their UK home base after leaving royal duties. However, those plans came to an end in 2023 when King Charles III asked them to leave following the release of Spare. Now, reports that the renovations Harry and Meghan made to the cottage could soon be removed completely.
Why The Palace Wants To Restore The Property
According to the report, palace officials want Frogmore Cottage to be “reclaimed and stripped back” to the way it looked before Harry and Meghan moved in and redesigned it. A palace insider claimed that the reasons go beyond simple home improvements.

The source said, “For some within the institution, undoing the Sussexes’ renovations is about much more than architecture or interior design. It represents drawing a firm line under an era that caused enormous strain inside the family and trying to restore a sense of normality to the royal estate.”
The insider also claimed that the royal family wants to “completely turn the page on that period”. And that “restoring the house to its original state is being viewed as a powerful symbolic gesture.” These comments suggest that some people inside the palace see the project as a way to close a difficult chapter in the family’s recent history.
