Harry Awarded for Service at 2024 ESPYS
ESPN announced a recent press release, making the admirers of Prince Harry super happy! The US-based royal launched The Invictus Games in 2014 to honour active-duty and veteran service members who saw it all.
These are the people who have been wounded, injured, or fallen ill while serving. The international multi-sport event features participants from over twenty countries. In May, the Duke took part in the anniversary celebration at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
He attended a panel discussion with The Invictus Games organisation and mingled with veterans from various sports at the event. Furthermore, Harry jetted to Nigeria, where he met with the country’s chief of defence staff.
There, he graced a reception celebrating military families and visited injured service members at a military hospital. His wife, Meghan Markle, joined him in Nigeria and co-hosted an event for women in leadership.
Anyway, this year’s ESPYS will be broadcast live on ABC on July 11 at 8 p.m. EDT/PDT. And guess what? Tennis legend Serena Williams will host this year’s awards. In addition to Prince Harry, other honourees include Steve Gleason and Dawn Staley.
Steve will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, while Dawn will be honoured with the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance. Meanwhile, ESPN’s vice president of production, Kate Jackson, expressed the network’s excitement about the event.
She shared, “It’s our privilege to recognize three incredible individuals—Steve Gleason, Dawn Staley, and Prince Harry.” According to her, these honourees have used their platforms to change the world.
They made it more inclusive for marginalised and suffering communities, demonstrating incredible resilience, positivity, and perseverance. Kate concluded, “We’re thrilled to celebrate them at The 2024 ESPYS.”
