Meghan’s Husband Is Shocked At The Tillman Awards Backlash
The Duke of Sussex is said to be ‘stunned’ following a backlash about his nomination for the ESPYs Pat Tillman Award for Service. The 39-year-old is due to be honoured at the glitzy July 11 ceremony for his military experience and work on the Invictus Games. This award honours ex-football pro Pat Tillman who refused a high-paid football contract for his passion to serve his country. Unfortunately, the legend passed away 20 years ago in a fire incident in Afghanistan.

Last week, Tillman’s mother, Mary, revealed that she wasn’t consulted about Harry receiving an accolade bearing her son’s name. While speaking to the Daily Mail, she said, “I am shocked as to why they would select such a controversial and divisive individual to receive the award.”
She further emphasised, “There are recipients that are far more fitting. There are individuals working in the veteran community who are doing tremendous things to assist veterans. These individuals do not have the money, resources, connections, or privilege that Prince Harry has. I feel that those types of individuals should be recognised.”
This whole news has left Harry stunned after receiving such a heavy backlash. This latest backlash began by the end of June after ESPN announced that Harry would receive this honour. In addition, a petition against the Duke receiving this award received nearly 68,000 signatures within ten days.
A source close to him informed the Telegraph, “It is a bitter pill to swallow when the Duke of Sussex is criticised about anything relating to his military record and work with veterans. Harry’s legacy on Invictus, the things he has achieved, that’s his real passion.”
Furthermore, ESPN also took a stand and defended their decision to honour Harry and said that his work on the Invictus Games ‘is a cause worth celebrating.’ We really hope the Duke receives the honour that he deserves for his exceptional social work.
