Ultimately, his tough tactics paid off, and Tesco was boasting annual profits of £162 million by 2016. Back in 2020, Sir David decided it was time to stop the grind and step back. He wanted to spend some quality time with his family at their home in Surrey.
However, the industry bigwig couldn’t stay idle for long and soon jumped into the renewable energy sector. Then, he took on roles with big names like Morrisons, Pepsi, and the World Wildlife Fund.
Subsequently, his impressive career earned him a knighthood in 2021 for services to business, putting him on the royal family’s radar. A royal insider believes appointing Sir David is a “genius” move. It promises to build “strong foundations” for William and Kate’s work.
