Prince Harry’s planned visit to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children has once again raised questions about his relationship with Prince William. While many royal watchers hope the visit could bring the brothers closer, experts believe there is still a long way to go before any real reconciliation happens.
Why William Is Still Upset With Harry
Prince Harry is expected to return to the UK in July with Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet. It will be the family’s first visit to Britain together since 2022. Even so, royal experts do not think the trip will lead to a reunion between Harry and William. Amanda Matta, co-host of the podcast Off With Their Headlines, said the relationship between the brothers is currently the “most strained” within the royal family.
Matta explained that William’s position as the future King has influenced how he handles family matters. “William is also seeking to project strength and leadership these days. It often results in press briefings that he has opposed the king’s handling of emotionally charged issues. And now, Harry’s potential return,” Matta explained to the publication.
She also believes William still feels deeply hurt by Harry’s actions over the years. “For the brothers to bury the hatchet, William needs to approach the situation pragmatically rather than emotionally,” she said. “Sort of the opposite of King Charles’ approach. William has been the holdout for years, viewing Harry’s betrayal as unforgivable.”
Experts Do Not Expect A Meeting Soon
Royal reporter Emily Nash also does not expect the brothers to meet during Harry’s visit. “I certainly wouldn’t expect anything to happen on this visit,” Nash told the outlet. She said there is a chance William and Harry could attend the same family gathering, but she does not think they will go out of their way to spend time together.
“If it was part of a wider family gathering, it’s possible they could be at the same place at the same time. But, you know, given the very fractious nature, I don’t see them rushing to spend time together,” she said.
Nash also shared her thoughts on King Charles’s role in the situation. She believes the King is more focused on seeing Harry and meeting his grandchildren than on trying to bring his sons. “I think he probably is just focused on his own moment of spending time with the son. It is especially potentially meeting his grandchildren. I’m sure that’s probably his primary focus right now,” Nash said.
