Kate Middleton has shared an emotional update about how her cancer battle affected not only her, but also the royal family members closest to her.
While the Princess of Wales went through treatment and recovery, Prince William, their three children, and other family members faced their own struggles. Now, Kate is opening up about how difficult that period was for everyone around her. Scroll down to see what Kate has to say.
Kate Middleton Reflects On Royal Family’s Difficult Experience
More than a year after announcing that her cancer was in remission, Kate spoke about the impact her illness had on her loved ones. During a recent visit with a cancer patient celebrating the end of treatment, she explained that cancer affects entire families, not just the person receiving treatment.
Speaking about her own experience, Kate said, “I know it’s as hard for the family and loved ones. I know how hard it was for the children and my parents.”bShe also told the patient’s partner, “You go through it with them.” Kate first revealed her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and has since spoken about how her family supported her throughout the journey.

After completing chemotherapy in 2025, Kate said the experience gave her a new outlook on life. She reflected on the emotional challenges that cancer brings for both patients and their loved ones. “The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” Kate said in a social media video.
She added, “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.” The Princess said the experience reminded her family to appreciate life’s simple but meaningful moments. “Be grateful for the simple yet important things in life, which so many of us often take for granted. Of simply loving and being loved,” she said.
William Praises Kate’s Strength
Prince William has also spoken about how the family handled the difficult period. During an appearance on The Reluctant Traveler in October 2025, he said he and Kate focused on helping Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis feel safe and supported.
“We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need,” William said. “And we’re a very open family, so we talk about the things that bother us, the things that trouble us. But you never quite know the knock-on effects it can have.” He added, “It’s just important to be there for each other,” William said, “and reassure the children that everything is okay.”

Now that Kate is in remission, William continues to praise her resilience. During an appearance on Heart Breakfast last month, he said, “She’s been amazing. She’s been through so much in the last couple of years, particularly. And she’s been looking forward to the Italian trip a lot and so I’m really glad it went really well.”
William also shared how proud he is of his wife, adding, “I’m very, very proud” of her recovery and resilience throughout the journey. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Royal news and updates.
