On May 14, Disney Channel took to its official Instagram page to make some surprising announcements. Disney shared some behind-the-scenes pictures of Wizards of Waverly Place, where Selena and David Henrie were seen posing together in the snaps, holding their wands.
While the first snap hinted at the sister-brother reunion, the second image gave more glimpses of the siblings on screen. So, it’s confirmed that the entire Russo family and the original cast are all set to return to Wizards of Waverly Place.
Selena Gomez will return to play the adult Alex Russo, David Henrie will step into Justin Russo’s steps, and the on-screen siblings will also return. These include Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, and Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo. However, the series will also see some new faces.
According to the reports, Taylor Cora will play Winter, Billie’s (Janice LeAnn Brown) best friend. While fans’ favorite cast has already started filming the sequel to Wizards of Waverly Place, Disney revealed that the series won’t go with the old name; instead, it will be titled ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.’
The last we saw in the Wizards of Waverly Place finale was when the siblings Alex, Justin, and Max competed to gain full wizardry. While Alex won the family wizard competition, her brother Justin became the headmaster of WizTech when Professor Crumbs passed his position to Justin. While the brother and sister became a full wizard, Max lost his powers and opted to become the new manager of the family’s sandwich shop.
While the series ended on such a note, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place will embark on a new journey when Alex brings a wizard-in-training, Billie, home. She seeks Justin’s help to help Billie regain her magical skills. This allows Justin to re-embark on his wizardry journey while balancing his everyday responsibilities.
While it remains unclear what the future holds for Alex, Billie, and Justin, Selena recently revealed that series filming has just begun. Since filming has just started, it doesn’t seem like the show will return soon this summer.
