Griffith did not sugarcoat how rushed this decision really was when he spoke with the press about it. He explained that the show learned Walton could not fly in just as the episodes were locking into place.
“When we got the sad news that Jess wouldn’t be able to make it down here for this, we were just so close to when we needed to do it and our publicist and I just sat and brainstormed for two seconds,” Griffith said. That kind of scramble does not happen for a throwaway scene. It says a lot about how important this particular Jill storyline is meant to be.
Griffith having once written for Koslow at Days Of Our Lives made the choice feel less random. Because Y&R and Days Of Our Lives both fall under the Sony umbrella, the studio found a workable arrangement fairly quickly. Koslow’s schedule was protected so her commitments in Salem would not take a hit during her time in Genoa City. That kind of cross show juggling does not happen unless someone upstairs really wants this storyline to land on time.

That is not exactly a guarantee.

Genoa City has seen recasts become permanent before, and this one is shaping up to follow that same familiar pattern.
