Coronation Street viewers have watched Theo Silverton cause chaos on the cobbles over the past year, but the actor behind the character is preparing for something completely different away from Weatherfield.
While Theo’s future on the ITV soap remains uncertain amid growing tension and a looming death storyline, James Cartwright has already secured his next project, and this time he’ll be sharing the screen with his famous real-life father.
Theo’s Turbulent Coronation Street Storyline Raises Questions About His Future
James Cartwright joined Coronation Street last year as Theo Silverton, quickly stepping into the spotlight as Todd Grimshaw’s new love interest. Todd, played by Gareth Pierce, seemed smitten with the newcomer at first, and it did not take long before sparks began flying between the pair as their relationship developed on screen.
However, things soon took a darker turn. Theo gradually revealed his manipulative side as he began controlling and emotionally abusing Todd, with the storyline showing how he tried to dominate every aspect of Todd’s life. Over time, the situation worsened, and what started as emotional manipulation eventually escalated into physical violence.
The drama reached a shocking point this week when Theo pulled out a knife during a confrontation with Todd. That moment finally pushed the couple to end their relationship. The storyline continued to simmer in Thursday’s episode, when Theo overheard Summer Spellman, played by Harriet Bibby, telling George Shuttleworth that James Bailey had spent the night on Todd’s sofa. The revelation left Theo furious and clearly rattled.
Flash-Forward Episode Fuels Kill-Off Speculation
Theo’s situation on the cobbles has become even more uncertain because of a flash-forward storyline shown earlier this year. During the dramatic episode, viewers saw a glimpse into the future involving five characters who could potentially face death next month. And Theo was among those possible victims.
In the closing moments of that episode, the show briefly revealed each of the characters in the future timeline, leaving fans wondering who might ultimately be killed off. Because Theo appeared among those in danger, speculation has continued to swirl about whether James Cartwright might be leaving the soap.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his character’s fate, the actor has already lined up another acting project outside the ITV drama. Cartwright is set to appear in a brand-new comedy-horror film titled Bjorn of the Dead, which offers a very different tone compared with the intense storyline currently unfolding on Coronation Street.
In the upcoming film Bjorn of the Dead, Cartwright will play a character named Benny. The story follows an ABBA tribute band that suddenly finds itself battling zombies at the very start of a global apocalypse. Speaking about the project, Cartwright sounded enthusiastic about the unusual mix of genres and star power involved. He told Absolutely Magazine, “I see it being a cult classic. It’s brilliant, it’s funny, it’s charming.” We are also very excited to see him on screens. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
