If you’ve been watching Coronation Street lately, you’ve probably felt that uneasy knot in your stomach when Todd Grimshaw comes on screen. His storyline has taken such a dark turn that many viewers are now asking the same question, could this be leading to Todd leaving the cobbles for good?
Things Have Been Heading This Way For A While
Todd has been stuck in one of Coronation Street’s most disturbing storylines in recent months, thanks to his relationship with Theo Silverton. What began as a complicated romance slowly turned into something much more frightening, with Theo becoming increasingly controlling, jealous, and aggressive. In the latest episode, Theo’s jealousy flared up again when he had a go at Todd over a childhood crush on Nick Tilsley.
Todd had only shared a harmless chat with Nick about running routes, but Sarah Platt unknowingly mentioned Todd’s old crush to Theo, completely unaware of how badly that information would land. This wasn’t the first warning sign.
Earlier on, Theo had already shown his insecurity when Summer Spellman gave Todd tickets to a Q&A with his celebrity crush. Instead of being happy for him, Theo booked a weekend away for the exact same dates, making sure Todd couldn’t go. Bit by bit, Theo has been tightening his grip.
Control Turned Into Abuse
Things took another worrying turn when Theo went out to collect a cake for George Shuttleworth. When he returned, he confronted Todd yet again. Todd tried to explain that his feelings for Nick were ancient history and meant nothing, but Theo refused to hear it.
He drove off with the cake and left Todd stranded to get home across Manchester on his own. Sadly, this kind of behaviour has become the norm.
Since they moved in together, Theo has controlled almost every part of Todd’s life. He criticised what Todd ate, force-fed him kebab meat, and pushed him into extreme exercise by signing him up for a marathon he never wanted to do.
He also constantly gaslit Todd, blaming him for upsetting others and slowly cutting him off from people like Summer and Billy Mayhew. When Todd finally felt he couldn’t cope anymore, Theo manipulated him emotionally by turning to self-harm and promising to get help. Todd felt trapped. The abuse then became violent.
Is This The Beginning Of Todd’s Exit From Coronation Street?
With everything escalating, it’s no surprise fans are wondering if Todd is actually leaving the show. Actor Gareth Piercehas hinted that while Todd does try to fight back, the situation only gets worse, leaving him feeling even more trapped than before. Despite all the warning signs, Todd appears determined to stay, even getting down on one knee to propose to Theo in upcoming scenes.
What’s really added fuel to the exit rumours is Todd’s confirmed appearance in Corriedale. With danger looming for several characters during the crossover, Todd’s involvement has left viewers fearing he could be one of the unlucky ones.
