Why Beyond the Gates Could Be The Surprise Winner At The 2026 Daytime Emmys

By Roy

Beyond the Gates is heading into its first-ever Daytime Emmy Awards race with several strong contenders. While new soaps often wait years before receiving major recognition, industry expert Michael Bruno believes the CBS drama has enough standout performances to earn multiple nominations and possibly several wins, with Tamara Tunie leading the charge.

Tamara Tunie Could Be The Show’s Biggest Emmy Hope

The 2026 Daytime Emmy Award nominations will be announced on July 14, marking Beyond the Gates’ first year of eligibility after its 2025 debut. Bruno believes the show has a real opportunity to make an immediate impact, although he says the cast should avoid entering too many performers in the same categories.

“When I sit with my clients to choose scenes for their reels, the first thing I say to them is we need to include scenes that enable me to understand your character and the story if I’d never seen your show,” Bruno says. “That’s the most important thing.”

Among all the contenders, Bruno believes Tamara Tunie has the best chance of winning Best Actress thanks to Anita Dupree’s breast cancer storyline, which began during the Emmy eligibility period. “Tamara can not only get the nomination, but I feel she can win, too,” Bruno says.

“She’s somebody new. It’s not the same eight actresses that we’ve seen for the last 20 years. Here’s someone fresh.” He also added, “She’s also someone we know. She’s familiar and beloved.”

Beyond The Gates: Several Cast Members Also Have Strong Chances

Bruno expects Clifton Davis and Jon Lindstrom to be serious Best Actor contenders. “Clifton is known for his primetime work,” Bruno says. “And Jon is known in the industry for his work on General Hospital [as Dr. Kevin Collins]. Both Jon and Tamara have been in this for 35 years. People vote for their friends. I imagine all of General Hospital is going to vote for Jon.”

For Best Supporting Actress, Bruno believes Daphnée Duplaix and Trisha Mann-Grant are the strongest choices. He would also submit Ambyr Michelle and Marquita Goings for Best Emerging Talent. Under the updated Best Guest Performer rules, he also sees Ernestine Johnson as a deserving contender, saying, “She’s very likable. Ernestine took what could have been a supporting day player role and turned it into a character I care about. I want to see more of her journey.”

Bruno admitted the show’s biggest problem is having too many worthy candidates. He called the cast an “embarrassment of riches” but warned, “The votes may split.” He added, “It’s got to be Sophie’s Choice… You’ve got to be strong.” Even before the winners are announced, Bruno believes Beyond the Gates has already become a success for daytime television. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Beyond the Gates spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
